A 10-year old male diagnosed with Selective Mutism drew this self-portrait. Although this drawing is developmentally appropriate for a younger child, it may express this student's unconscious desire to be "bigger than life" in order to gain control over an environment which he may perceive as overwhelming. Note the inclusion of his pet dog and the attention to detail he has given his fingers and shoes.
